Southwest Landscapes and Mixed-media Works

These landscape paintings, drawings and mixed-media works inspired by the Southwest United States and created by artist George Kendall Allen are examples of Fine Art that represent the beautiful expansiveness of the western sky and the mystical nature of the canyons and rivers of Colorado, Utah and Arizona, as well as down through New Mexico and across to the Big Bend of Texas. These are landscapes of the mind and heart that attempt to show the Southwest United States in Nature's great diversity from a different point of view.

Wild Rose Pass, Big Bend, Texas, original oil on canvas, G.K.Allen
George K. Allen’s original oil paintings, ink drawings & watercolors along with carefully crafted mixed-media works capture the mystery and magic of the Southwest and act as reminders of the sublime nature of this land and the awesome creative forces that formed these landscapes. Limited editon prints and reproductions of these original one-of-a-kind works of art showcase the canyons and rugged mountains and the wild and wonderful sky that is the original Wild West United States.

“I have been recording my impressions of the Great Southwest on paper and canvas for over 40 years. The territory from Texas through New Mexico, beyond Arizona and across Colorado and Utah contains some of the most dramatic and sensual land forms on earth. I have been guided to explore the mystery of these landscapes and how sky and rock meet to form that distinctive horizon line. It is a line that separates the solid ground from the mystical sky.”

George & Elaine have recently moved from the small, energetic town of Fruita on the Western Slope of Colorado to the small, energetic town of Crowell, Texas, in Foard County on the Rolling Plains of West Texas, just a bit south of the Red River. The Crowell House Gallery is in the house that Elaine's great grandparents finished building in 1908. They hope to turn the two story Victorian home into a bed & breakfast in the not too distant future. And George Kendall Allen continues to paint and photograph the landscapes of the Southwest United States.

We are offering affordable limited edition prints and reproductions and many original landscape paintings for purchase. Also original mixed-media works, Southwestern inspired wall art and decor, and several unusual pieces can be added to your collection as personal inspiration in your own environment and as a reminder of the mystical nature of the creative process

Mixed Media Drawing of the Colorado National Monument
The Colorado National Monument offers a close-up view of the ruggedness of nature and displays the results of millions of years of the earth's own artistry. It is a grand and powerful landscape that speaks of mystery and magic. This is a mixed-media work using colored wax pencils over a photograph printed on heavy fine art mat paper. It is an attempt to capture the energy one feels when viewing that landscape. November, 2005.
